Pentair delivers a comprehensive range of smart, sustainable water solutions to homes, business and industry around the world. It is now using its existing capabilities to develop a free flow water turbine.
The Pentair Fairbanks Nijhuis tidal turbine is optimised for generating energy from tides and also has been proven to be fish-friendly. The turbine blades can rotate 180 degrees, making the turbine bi-directional. The technology has been tested under the EU Interreg Pro-Tide project, which has shown that the technology scores almost 100% on fish-friendeliness. This tested scale model turbine had a scale of 1:15. The full-scale turbine, which will have a rotor diameter spanning 8 metres, is currently under development and is expected to generate 4 MW.
