Deltares

Deltares, located in Delft, is a world-renowned, independent knowledge institute that conducts research related to water and (sub)soil. Their research projects focus on deltas, coastal regions and river basins.

Deltares' test facilities include several flumes of various sizes and three basins for tank testing. These facilities enable large- to medium-sized lab scale testing of wave, tidal stream and low head technologies (TRLs 3-6). Apart from test facilities, which have an ISO 9001 certification, Deltares also has access to numerical facilities that can be used in the design and prototyping phases of development. These include CFD, Comix, Delft3D (swan), Pharos and Oceanwave3.

Deltares also is a partner in the DMEC Innovation Accelerator project, and works on the development of a tool that allows for the modelling of the hydrodynamics around a tidal energy installation. It also collaborates with other Dutch knowledge institutes on a suite of tools that help identify, quantify, and mitigate environmental effects of marine energy technologies.
