Wageningen University & Research

Wageningen University and Research (WUR) is an academic research institute focusing on several topics, including health and food, circular and bio-based economy, environment and climate change, and coastal and marine systems. Several research institutes are allied to WUR, including Wageningen Marine Research (WMR).

WUR has several test facilities that can be used to test tidal energy technologies. Their flumes are especially suited to small-scale prototypes of TRL 1 to 3. WUR is also licensed to run tests with live animals, potentially enabling fish friendliness tests of tidal turbines.

Wageningen Marine Research, part of WUR, is a partner in the DMEC Innovation Accelerator project, and collaborates with other Dutch knowledge institutes on a suite of tools that help identify, quantify, and mitigate environmental effects of marine energy technologies.
