European technologies are currently leading the world in ocean energy, and many devices have already been tested extensively at sea. The next step towards commercialisation is the transition from single machine to multi-device farms. This transition comes with higher capital requirements. However, investors often require a proven business case before getting involved. Ocean DEMO will ease the transition towards multi-device farms by providing free access to Europe’s world leading network of open sea test centres.
What is Ocean DEMO? Ocean DEMO is an €13m Interreg North West Europe project. It helps bring offshore renewable energy technologies to the market by providing free access to North-West Europe’s world-leading network of test centres. Ocean DEMO specifically targets multi-device ocean energy installations. This will allow developers to prove their technology at full commercial scale.
Who is eligible? Ocean DEMO is open to all enterprises, research centres, third level education institutions, companies or individuals working in the ocean energy technology sector. Applicants should seek to demonstrate their technologies and services in real sea environments at one of Ocean DEMO’s four test centres. Technologies eligible for testing programmes include renewable energy technologies such as wave energy, tidal energy, and floating wind, but also information & communications technologies, supporting services, and supply chain technologies.
